A woman plays hard to get because she wants to present herself as a challenge… someone who is almost unattainable. Women believe this is the best way to attract the man of their dreams. However, there are times when a girl is not playing hard to get; she is actually saying to a man, "Sorry, but no thanks." Many guys get frustrated in guessing whether or not a woman really likes them, so they just assume that every woman on earth is playing hard to get. This is simply not the case. You must learn how to tell whether or not she is playing hard to get or you will set yourself up for major disappointment.
Why do women always seem to play hard to get?
You have probably heard many women say that they actually hate men (for one reason or another). Women don't trust us, so they play hard to get to protect themselves from being used and hurt. Also, they don't want to be seen as an easy score, so they are content with making men chase them around for a while… making them "earn it" so to speak. Before she decides to take it a step further, she wants to be sure that the guy truly likes her and is not in it just for some cheap thrills. Playing hard to get is sort of like the screening process.
The fact of the matter is that playing hard to get actually works for most women. Not to mention the fact that men love to hunt for the "more desirable, hard to get" prey that seems just out of their reach more often than not. The unfortunate thing for us men is that sometimes we can't tell the difference between a woman who is playing hard to get and a woman really wants nothing to do with us.
"So… is she playing hard to get or not?"
The last thing you want to do is chase a girl who wants nothing to do with you. So how can you tell if she actually likes you? One of the first things to do is observe her body language. No matter what she says, her body never lies… especially her eyes. So it is important that you know how to read and interpret her many body languages.
Doesn't return your phone calls
Ok, so you did the impossible and got her number. That's it, right? Nope. This is only the start. Women have only begun the play the game at this stage. So when you give a call and you get her answer machine/voicemail, don't beat yourself up just yet. What you want to do is leave a message reminding her where you met her and leave your telephone number as well—that's it. If she likes you she will definitely get back at you as soon as she thinks the right amount of time has passed (remember if she is playing hard to get, she will not call you back immediately). With that being said, if you call her a couple of times and leave your number, give her some time to call you back. However, if you hear nothing from her after a week, move on.
Please remember, when calling, you can't seem desperate and call her 5-10 times a day in the hopes of reaching her. When you act in a desperate manner, women will want to stay away from you. While women love attention, they hate guys who seem to be obsessive jerks.
Another thing you must remember when leaving a message is to never act as if she is too good for you. If you do she might actually start believing it and never return your call.
You also have to be seen as an extremely busy individual--someone who has a lot going on in his life as well and will not wait around forever for a woman to call back. She knows that if she doesn't call you soon you will most likely move on quicker than the overly obsessed guy with absolutely no life. Knowing this, she wont play hard to get for too long… it's too risky--unless, of course, she actually doesn't like you.
Sorry I can't hang out; I'll be too busy
If you get her number, and she does answer when you call, you have to pay attention to what she says. If she replies to your proposals (dates) with "sorry, I'm going to be busy" repeatedly then you can bet you will never be with that girl. She is not playing hard to get in this particular scenario. If a woman can't even make time for a date then she is not interested. Maybe she gave you her number to be kind and didn't want to embarrass you by rejecting you.
On the other hand, if she says no initially and then says things like "I might be busy this week, but why don't you call me back? Or better yet… I can call you to let you know when I have freed up some time on my schedule. I'm sure we can work something out." This sounds more like a woman playing hard to get. She is merely giving you the run around.

Because women are usually on the receiving end of pick-ups, it's easier for them to sit back and let men pursue. Actually, women have become incredibly proficient when playing hard to get. Even if you read the situation perfectly and you're 99.99% sure that she is into you, she can still shoot you down like a duck hunter. Playing hard to get can confuse even the most seasoned veteran. Knowing this, it is important for you to find ways to tell whether or not she is playing hard to get.
There are literally hundreds of examples I can give you. The bottom line is this… the dating game constantly changes and if you are not kept up to speed you will be left behind. The best advice I have for you is to try and interpret her body language to tell whether or not she is playing hard to get or is actually rejecting you.
